Superintendent Update

 

Last night was the Board’s regular monthly meeting for August.  The following is a summary of the meeting.

    1. Bond Resolution

The Board approved the Bond refunding that saved the District approximately $130,000.

  1. Consensual Items of minutes and financial report were approved.
  2. Educational Items

COVID-19 Update/planning

        The COVID-19 plans for the schools were reviewed.The Board moved to let the elementary administrators decide on mask wearing for the school.They also required masks to be worn on bus routes.

  1. Business Items
    1. Expenses > $10,000 were approved as follows.

Farmers and Merchants Bank, bond refunding deposit return, $25,100.00; Merchants and Planters Bank of Newport, bond, $258,102.17; ASBA Risk Management Program, Insurance, $57,600.85; Van Horn pay App 6, $811,619.27.Jackson Brown Palculict, Architect, $ 3,856.93.

  1. Student Transfers were approved as follows.

  1. Parent and Family Engagement Plan

The Board approved the plan.

  1. Sick Leave Policy Update

The Board approved the change to the unpaid sick leave policies.This will allow the payment rate to be the at the current substitute teacher rate.

  1. Calendar

The proposed calendar was approved.

  1. Employee Income >5% report for 19/20

The list was approved by the Board

  1. Statement of Assurances

The statement was moved by the Board and signed by the President.

  1. Staffing List

This was postponed to later in the meeting and then approved by the Board.The Superintendent was given approval to make changes during the year, if required.

  1. Part time casual nurse

We plan to employ one nurse on a temporary basis for the high school.We are looking for a suitable applicant.

  1. Pre K Handbook

There have been a few changes made for COVID-19.The handbook was approved.

  1. Milk Bid

Hiland Dairy Foods was the winning bidder.

Paulette McKinney - Elem Custodian was approved.

Long Term Sub for MS Choir - Jenna Kirk Harper was approved.

MS Special Education – Stephanie Cox was approved.

Elem Special Ed – Monica Cole was approved to be the long term substitute for this position.On her certification this vacancy is to be brought back to the board.

MS Assistant Principal – Leah Campbell of Perryville was approved.

Elem. Receptionist –Tara White of Mayflower was approved.

MS Art – Melisa Foster was approved.

Computer Tech. – this position is still vacant.Looking for a suitable applicant.

        Principals mentioned a couple of brief items of discussion.

The Board worked with the Superintendent Search Company.
